What is Project Homekey (PHK)?

Project Homekey (PHK)

  • Launched in 2020 by the LA County Homeless Initiative, Project Homekey is a partnership between Los Angeles County, the City of Los Angeles, other cities, and the State of California to purchase and rehabilitate hotels and motels for conversion into permanent, long-term housing for people experiencing homelessness.
  • PHK builds upon Project Roomkey, which was an emergency initiative to lease hotel rooms to seniors and other medically vulnerable people experiencing homelessness during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • As of October 2023, there are 79 total PHK sites with a total of 4,338 units in Los Angeles County: 37 supportive housing sites with 2,300 units, and 42 interim housing sites with 2,038 units.
