On January 8, 2025, my family's home was burned down by the Eaton Canyon Wildfire. We left with nothing besides important documents and lost absolutely everything we ever owned. A couple months ago, we finally settled down in a rental in Pasadena. Better Angel's provided us with a grant to assist in purchasing household appliances and furniture to help our living space feel more like home. With the grant, we ended up buying stuff for the kitchen because the kitchen was where the heart of our home was in Altadena. To name a few purchases, we bought an air fryer, knife set, rice cooker, microwave, and a better blender. They were items we needed and helped us make our new temporary living space feel more like home. The application process was simple and I would recommend the grant to others who were affected by the wildfires.

Hi Better Angels,Better Angels has literally been a Godsend...Every day, it's something new financially that relates to our loss from the fire and every bit helps...Feeling blessed.Thank you, Better Angels!

We received $500 from The Step Fund. These funds will go towards our rent expenses while we wait to rebuild. Every dollar saved is a dollar towards rebuilding, restoration, and recovery.
Agradecida con la ayuda triste por recordar todos mis recuerdos en esa casa pero gracias adios ya estamos saliendo adelante
Translation: “I am grateful for the help we received, it is sad remembering my memories there. I thank God we are able to move forward now.”

Hello! My name is Mariana GarsiaI would like to start by thanking you for your help me and my family appreciate it so much the grant helped us with bills, groceries essentials ,gas, it helped in many ways and we are forever thankful as we continue to try and adapt to this new life we are thankful to be safe and to be able to share our story a home where first steps were taken, first days of school, birthdays, sad and happy moments, the comfort of simply sitting on that couch is all gone and is never coming back is just memories we will carry forever in our hearts.
I just want to say thank you for providing us with funding towards our rebuilding process. Any assistance is greatly appreciated in times like these. It provides us with hope and stability assuring us that we can and will fill the gap some way or another so thank you for your support and assistance.

The grant mainly has helped me with food and money for my daily transportation as I truly have lost everything in the fire including the car. You have no idea how much it has helped as the government no longer supports food stamps due to the shut down and my senior dog also needs his dog food. This is why the money has helped me a lot to continue to live without starving.

We used the 500 hundred dollars towards bills. We lost everything in the fire we barely escaped with our lives.

We are a family of 6 (2 senior adults, 2 adults, 2 minors). The grant helped pay for food, monthly medicines, gas, and activities for the kids. We are sincerely grateful that this organization & donors are still thinking about us 6+ months later since the fire. Please continue the work & fight that you do.
The only word I can think of to describe my family’s ability to recover from the displacement casted by the Eaton Fire for the past year is hopeless. After 7 months of displacement, we were able to find a temporary apartment, but we struggled with our footing starting from zero. The grant provided by the step fund allowed us to pay our rent on time, and was the single biggest factor in us gaining a step ahead in our journey forward. God bless you all. Thank you.
