Better Angels Expands Emergency Assistance Fund to Support LA Wildfire Victims

LOS ANGELES, CA – August 04, 2025 – Better Angels, a leading nonprofit committed to solving Los Angeles’ homelessness epidemic, today announced the expansion of its comprehensive Fire Recovery Initiative. This vital program provides immediate financial assistance to low-income individuals and families (below 50% Area Median Income) in Los Angeles who continue to face profound challenges directly related to the recent wildfires that struck the LA area in January 2025.

Building on the success of the Better Angels EAF program, which provided critical immediate relief, Better Angels has secured new partnerships and vital contributions from dedicated funders, significantly expanding its capacity. This crucial expansion enables Better Angels to launch the Fire Recovery Grant Program, which is specifically designed to provide continued assistance for fire victims, extending beyond the immediacy of the initial disaster earlier this year. This expansion focuses on addressing the ongoing housing instability and urgent needs that threaten to plunge more families into homelessness.

As the immediate crisis passes, the recovery journey for many is just beginning, and the threat of homelessness remains very real," said Staci Miller, co-founder of Better Angels. "Thanks to the incredible commitment of our new funding partners, including FireAid, Specialty Family Foundation, The Wonderful Company, LA Tech Community Cares, and The SoLa Foundation, Better Angels is able to expand this crucial program, offering a lifeline to those struggling to rebuild their lives and secure stable housing."

Better Angels understands that every recovery journey is unique, and the challenges faced can vary greatly. To address critical needs and to help those impacted by the fire remain in stable housing, the fund offers: ‍

• Recovery Micro Grants: These grants are intended to help cover the cost of essential and necessary household items lost or damaged in the fires.
• Security Deposit Assistance: For individuals and families who lost their homes or were displaced due to their house being uninhabitable due to damage from the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, this grant provides direct financial assistance with a security deposit for new, safe housing. 
• Past-Due Rent Assistance: For those who have fallen behind on rent payments directly due to housing or job/income loss caused by the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, this assistance can help cover those past-due amounts.
